Healthy Student Initiative

Collaborators: York University, Black Creek Community Centre and NexJ Systems Inc.

The Healthy Student Initiative at York University will extend health coaching and lessons learned from the Black Creek Community Centre deployment to first year university students to assist adoption of healthy practices during the critical maturational stage experienced during university attendance. This project incorporates a randomized controlled trial (RCT) of 80 students to assess whether personal health coaching and utilization of the mobile health coaching application developed by NexJ Systems will have a positive effect on the body mass index (BMI), fitness levels, waist circumference and cholesterol levels of students. Feedback from participants will shape the development of new features that NexJ will implement in the mobile application to better serve general users who wish to improve their health and wellness.
